Group Functions

Finance

Group Accounting & Taxation provides the services and expertise to enable us to operate effectively from a financial perspective on a day to day basis, and help the business grow and diversify in a secure, sustainable manner. With around 110 people in Leicester and Bootle, we are responsible for Taxation, Financial Systems, Treasury Accounting and Financial Reporting.

Group Financial Planning & Control brings together business and financial perspectives to ensure shareholders’ interests are protected and respected in everything we do. We achieve this by leading the finance agenda across the organisation and ensuring that effective solutions are adopted to a wide range of commercial issues, harnessing the knowledge and commitment of 125 people in Leicester, Bootle and Manchester.

Human Resources

Our HR function is at the heart of everything we do – ensuring that our most valuable assets have the skills and confidence they need to do their jobs to the best of their ability and attain their personal and professional goals.

With bases in Leicester and Bootle, the HR team comprises 100 high calibre people responsible for:

  • Reward and remuneration;
  • Policy development;
  • Employee relations;
  • Recruitment and resourcing;
  • Health and safety;
  • Pensions.

In addition, we have teams of HR Business Partners working with specific areas of the organisation, such as the Retail Bank, Commercial Bank and Shared Services. Closely supporting senior business managers, their role is to deliver the HR agenda in order to achieve our key strategic goals.

At present, the HR team is delivering positive cultural, procedural and structural change in everything we do – creating exciting opportunities for everyone who works with us.

Regulatory & Legal Services

This vital area of the business is responsible for advising on legal and compliance issues, providing internal audit services, ensuring adherence to money laundering requirements and managing relationships with shareholders.

You could join us in Group Compliance, Group Legal Services, Group Secretarial and Share Schemes, Group Anti-Money Laundering, Group Internal Audit or Fraud Risk Management and Computer Security. Whichever role suits your skills, you will use your professionalism, team spirit and commercial acumen to the full – and add measurable value across the business.

Risk

Effective risk management lies at the heart of modern banking and is critical to the delivery of shareholder value. Risk management doesn’t mean risk avoidance – it involves our 30-strong Leicester-based team developing a rigorous understanding of the risks and challenges that the business faces and developing appropriate strategies and solutions.

Our mission is to deliver effective risk management. We do this by ensuring the right balance is established between supporting the achievement of the Group’s business objectives and safeguarding its assets.

Technology

Technology is at the heart of our business operations. Our infrastructure and service teams are responsible for the efficient delivery and secure operation of services and systems that support our extensive store and business centre network, UK based contact centres, ATM network, and market leading internet and self service phone channels. Technology’s development teams work closely with all areas of Alliance & Leicester’s businesses to design, develop and support mission critical, real-time, high volume systems that manage our customers’ money. Working both with internal teams that use the latest technologies as well as with major industry partners, Technology is a key enabler in ensuring our bank’s products are market leading and great value for our customers.

In our quest to become the UK’s leading direct bank, we are currently making significant investments in our business process and IT capability. These include major investments in communications technology as well as the replacement of many of our core IT platforms. These programmes involve not only new technology but also a fundamental transformation of the way the bank operates.
