Any specific subject at degree level required: Analytical skills, an ability to communicate, a passion for making things happen, and a pragmatic approach to problem solving are more important than a specific degree subject. For example science, engineering, law, history, business as well as computing graduates will all do well
Any specific work experience: No, but will need experience of working in teams.
Primary location of the role: Carlton Park, Leicester / Bootle, Merseyside
Does the undergraduate need to be mobile? Will be required to travel between Leicester, Liverpool and other Alliance & Leicester locations on occasions.
Brief description of the dept/area and its role within the business: Technology is at the heart of our business operations. In our quest to become the UK’s leading direct bank, we are currently making significant investments in our business process and IT capability. These include major investments in communications technology as well as the replacement of many of our core IT platforms. These programmes involve not only new technology but also a fundamental transformation of the way the bank operates.
Our infrastructure and service teams are responsible for the efficient delivery and secure operation of services and systems that support our extensive store and business centre network, UK based contact centres, ATM network, and market leading internet and self service phone channels. Technology’s development teams work closely with all areas of Alliance & Leicester’s businesses to design, develop and support mission critical, real-time, high volume systems that manage our customers’ money. Working both with internal teams that use the latest technologies as well as with major industry partners, Technology is a key enabler in ensuring our bank’s products are market leading and great value for our customers.
Description of the anticipated duties/tasks that the undergraduate will be required to undertake: Working within Technology provides opportunities in all areas of our business, from high level strategic analysis, through business change, as well as IT operations, service delivery, systems development and support. We also have roles focused on commercial/financial management as well as controls and governance.
Graduates will spend time working in several key areas of our Technology division, ranging from project work, both technical and non-technical, to relationship management with our business colleagues. As well as undertaking different placements within Technology, you will spend time visiting other key business areas enabling you to fully appreciate how Alliance & Leicester operates.
